Bus Crash at the High School

This year, like in years past, we wanted to demonstrate to the students of Mogollon High School, what takes place in the event of an auto accident and what can happen to the victims.  We wanted to do something different this year so we decided on a Bus Crash.  Fortunately our area has never experienced a wreck of this size so we thought it would be a great drill for our Department as well.  We asked 11 of the students from the drama department of the High School to participate.  They were placed in makeup, placed on the Bus,  and told to act the way they would if this were real.  They all did a great job.  The bus driver was a member of our CERT Team.  The scenario was this, two students left school an hour early and were out joy riding in their car.  They were driving reckless and had a head on with a School Bus as they came around a corner.  The passenger of the vehicle dies as well as the bus driver.  In real life we would need a lot of help for something like this.  We had help from NCSO, DPS, Native Air, Owens Mortuary, Taylor EMS, Forest Lakes Fire Department, and our own CERT Team.

The students from the School sat in the stands and watched as Sergeant Paul Albert from the Navajo County Sheriffs Office and Capt. Wade Allen of the Heber-Overgaard Fire Department narrated the event.  The students were told what would happen to someone that gets arrested for reckless driving and killing people in the process.  They got to see first hand the amount of resources it takes to handle a call like this and the effect it can have on the Emergency Workers.
